MLK Celebration Week

In January each year, the City of Dallas hosts its annual celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a weeks’ worth of events highlighting issues of equity, diversity, and opportunity. The week includes a Day of Prayer, a Day of Service, a Wreath Laying Ceremony, Job Fair, Equity Symposium, Youth Summit, and Scholarship & Awards Gala. Celebration week will culminate with the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade.

Black History Month

Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history.

Journey, Next Steps

Journey, Next Steps is an action-driven organization that strives to support students who need essential materials and a complete starter kit inclusive of a laptop, cleaning items, sheets, comforters, pillows, dishes, personal hygiene items, gift cards, towels, containers, and (scholarships to those who qualify) when they choose to commit to the collegiate lifestyle.

Back to School Festival

The MLK Back to School Drive-Thru Festival is an annual event for students of all ages and their families to provide essential items for the new school year.

Hispanic Heritage Celebration

Each year we observe National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15) by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

Treat the Building

Treat the Building is an annual Halloween event for the students of the MLK ChildCareGroup.

Harambee Festival

The Harambee Festival is a community-based educational and cultural event that was created in the early 1970s as an alternative to Halloween for children.

Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos

The MLK, Jr. Community Center commemorates the Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos each year with a community event.

Day of Dignity

The MLK Center in partnership with local Islamic Relief USA is an opportunity for individuals to receive clothes, food, medical services, and hygiene kits. This is a day for everyone to be served with Dignity and Respect.

Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway

This is a collaborative effort to collect and provide a complete Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings to families in need.

Winter Warm-Up

The Winter Warm-Up is an annual event to provide free coats, hats, and gloves to children in need.
